Celldweller – Detroit, Michigan

We are in a tumultuous time economically here in this country.  This is the perfect storm scenario musically.  The height of the Reagan era brought Hip Hop to the forefront of our musical agenda and pissed off Middle America, which couldn’t have made me happier.  Now I am pissed, we have a sinking economy and I wanna kick the crap out of the closest politician but I want to be happy so I want to dance, God I am conflicted.  So I get both with my new Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup of music, Celldweller.  Music I can dance to but satisfies that darker side of my persona.  It’s a clean electronic presentation on these aforementioned emotions.  Does anyone remember that movie Judgment Night?  The movie was God awful but the soundtrack was bananas, that’s what this feels like.  I remember really digging Stabbing Westward because they made these beautiful melodic dark synth songs with explosive anger at the perfect moment.  Celldweller gives me that and more.  At times there is a Maynard James Keenan, (Tool, A Perfect Circle) style vocal with a Scott Humphrey feel (when he produced that Methods of Mayhem stuff with Tommy), that creates this beauty and the beast type scenario.  The music is epic and visual and could easily be our current soundtrack in 2011 into 2012 for our pitiful economic and political climate. Regardless of your political affiliation Celldweller gives you a real outlet, unlike voting, you now have a say in the outcome.
